Through the end of October we are collecting new books about smart and confident girls suitable for children ages 3 to 12. Your generous gifts will be donated to Tomorrow's Hope Child Development Center in Everett. For suggested titles, visit A Mighty Girl.
On Sunday, October 15, the Advocates for Women will host a special event to celebrate the International Day of the Girl (IDG). Established by a United Nations resolution in 2011, IDG acknowledges that the world’s 1.1 billion girls can be powerful agents of change as humanity attempts to solve the global issues of climate change, political conflict, disease, social inequality, and more.
IDG also recognizes that the discrimination and gender-based violence experienced by adolescent girls act as formidable barriers to fulfilling their human rights and allowing them to act as equal partners. How can girls take on the future if they are unable to receive a quality education? If they are forced into child marriage or live with other forms of violence? If they lack access to health information and services?
We will explore some of the unique challenges girls face, along with some strategies that support girls to realize their potential. So please join us as we celebrate girls – our girls at EUUC and girls everywhere!
|12:30 - 1:45||Light lunch provided by Advocates for Women (please RSVP) followed by program, EmPOWER Girls|
The program will be a presentation of the challenges for adolescent girls and some gender-responsive solutions. As an added treat, piano students of Keva Vaughan-McMorrow, who is a member and honored composer and teacher, will perform their award-winning piano compositions.
Advocates for Women will treat you to a free light lunch. Please RSVP to so we will be sure to prepare enough food. We know that schedules change, so just let us know if you think you will attend. We will be pleased to welcome you regardless of whether or not you RSVP.
