Visiting with Children and Youth

We are glad that you are considering bringing your family to our church.

The goal of our faith development program for children and youth is to cultivate and sustain in our young people a love of the spiritual life, a foundation for a personal theology and a confidence in their ability to be stewards of their own souls. Our aim is to foster the lifelong exploration of religious thought and values in a community that promotes spiritual development by means of free inquiry, mutual respect and responsible behavior.

Babes in arms are welcome in the service. If your little one becomes fussy we offer a Quiet Room at the back of the sanctuary, with a large window and speakers, so that you can continue to enjoy the service while meeting your child’s needs.

Our Toddler Room staff provides care for early walkers through pre-school age during both of our worship services. Children must be signed in and out, and parents must leave a cell phone number in case your child cannot be comforted or needs toilet help or a diaper change.

Children (Pre-K though Grade 8)

From September through early June, we offer classes for school age children at our 11:00 a.m. service. Most Sundays the children begin in the main worship service with their families, and then depart to their classes as a group. If it is your child’s first time, please come with them to their class to check them in. The first Sunday of each month, the children and youth gather for Chalice Chapel. Some Sundays we gather all ages for a Multi-Generational Worship, and children remain with their families for the full service.

Please note: During the regular church year our classes for children run until 12:15 (fifteen minutes after the adult worship ends), giving parents time to enjoy coffee and adult conversation. Please do not pick up your child early, as the classes need this time to finish their lessons.

During the summer months, we run a more informal drop in program for our children. Ask at the Welcome Desk for information about the day’s program.

Our Youth Group welcomes youth in grades 9-12, and meets during the Sunday morning 11:00 a.m. service, September through June. Every other year, we offer a Coming of Age program for our 9thgraders; this program will repeat in 2015-16.

Additional Programs

We offer several additional programs for our young people, including a comprehensive human sexuality course (Our Whole Lives) for teens and a Unitarian Universalist faith formation program for 2nd graders (Age of Reason), as well as classes for parents and special events throughout the year for families.
