The goal of our faith development program for children and youth is to cultivate and sustain in our young people a love of the spiritual life, a foundation for a personal theology and a confidence in their ability to be stewards of their own souls. Our aim is to foster the lifelong exploration of religious thought and values in a community that promotes spiritual development by means of free inquiry, mutual respect and responsible behavior.
At every level, our curricula are guided by five classical theological questions:
These questions lay the foundation for our shared exploration, presented in age-appropriate ways to our children as they grow and mature. Through the use of story and song, play and ritual, science, art and movement-based activities, our young people are invited into the fullness of religious experience. We explore the history of our own faith tradition and learn about world religions. We look to the examples of courageous figures in history and in the present, and we develop our own values, in conversation with peers and trusted adults. And we strive to treat one another with kindness and compassion, trying to live as the Beloved Community we hope to create in this world.
