Ombogo Girl's AcadamyThe Ombogo Girl's Academy is a private high school located in the Rangwe district of Kenya, on the South side of Lake Victoria. While the surrounding population has one of the highest poverty and HIV/AIDS rates in the country, girls who attend the school are given a chance to pursue an education that values high-standard academics, women's empowerment, safety, and health.
Slum Doctor Programme, a non-profit organization based in Bellingham, serves as a financial outlet for girls to pursue an education that may not have been possible otherwise. Donations to their general scholarship fund cover school fees, room and board, and personal expenses. They may also serve as a financial safety blanket for enrolled girls who are unable to pay tuition.
Slum Doctor Programme believes that educating young women will be the key factor in turning the AIDS epidemic around in Sub-Saharan Africa.
