Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County
May 2010 recipient

Domestic Violence Services (DVS) is the only program in Snohomish County providing confidential emergency shelter and services for domestic violence victims. Its mission is to end domestic violence by providing a range of services to victims, including their children, and by facilitating social change.

DVS exists because abuse is passed down from generation to generation unless the cycle of violence is interrupted. Domestic violence can happen to anyone, regardless of class. It is a pattern of behavior that a person uses to gain control over a partner.

Services encourage self-empowerment and making good choices, as well as providing a safe place. The number of domestic violence cases is up during these troubled economic times at a time when funding is decreasing.

This agency has provided free services to victims for the past 33 years. DVS needs volunteers

  • To answer the hotline crisis phone
  • To provide court support and advocacy
  • To work with children of victims
