Partners in Health — Stand with Haiti
February 2010 recipient

Partners in Health Vision
“Whatever it takes”

This simple vision statement says it all.  At its root, the mission is both medical and moral.  When people fall ill, Partners in Health treats them just as they would a member of their own family.

Partners in Health has been working on the ground in Haiti for over 20 years. Over the years they forged strong partnerships with local agencies, and this allowed them to respond immediately to the horrendous earthquake in January with emergency services.

HaitiThe organization is working in concert with the large public hospital at the University of Haiti. Their main priority is to increase the stock of medicines and supplies in support of operating rooms as well as aftercare. Partners in Health is also treating victims in its clinics in outlying areas.

The organization was founded by Dr. Paul Farmer who saw the need while still in medical school.  His extraordinary story is told in the book Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder.

This charity is rated with 4 stars (the highest rating) by Charity Navigator.
