Twenty percent of all people lack access to clean water and forty percent lack access to basic sanitation. The resulting illnesses cause the death of over five million people each year, most of whom are children younger than five. Furthermore, girls and women in developing countries spend many hours each day hauling water rather than attending school or working for pay.
Water 1st International, founded in 2005 in Seattle, has been working with non‐governmental partner agencies in the poorest communities in the world (Honduras, Bangladesh, India, and Ethiopia) to provide safe water systems, latrines, and hygiene education in order to end the cycle of poverty, death, and gender inequality.
Water 1st is also active in the global effort to stop corporate privatization of water. Water connects us all to each other and to the Earth. Please give generously this month during the Sunday Offering.
