Sunday Offerings

International Foundation of Hope

January 2009 recipient

All of the Sunday offerings in January will go to the International Foundation of Hope (IFHope) of Wenatchee, Washington. Our donations will directly support the important work of IFHope in providing hope to the people of Afghanistan through education, community empowerment, and economic development.

IFHope has been working cooperatively with the people of Afghanistan since 1998 to rebuild the countryside (forests, irrigation, and orchards) destroyed during 25 years of war. Partnering with the people of the Nangarhar Province, IFHope encourages and supports education, business, and agriculture, helping the people of Afghanistan rebuild their country and their lives.

Tree Nursery

IFHope established a 73-hectare tree nursery just outside of Jalalabad. The nursery has grown over one million fruit and nut saplings. These trees are used to establish and enhance orchards and forests across the countryside.

Projects are developed in close collaboration with local leadership and supported by international educational institutions. Through these projects, IFHope provides agricultural education and training so that the people of Afghanistan have a realistic chance of providing for their families in a manner that is productive, profitable, and legal in the long term. As a result, across the Afghan countryside, fruit and nut orchards are replacing poppy fields.

Afghan studentHope School in Kabul

The Hope School in Kabul provides education for 620 boys and girls in grades 1 through 7. Students learn the four subjects required by the Afghan Ministry of Education: Dari, Pashtu, math, and Holy Koran.

All the children study science and English, and those in grades five through seven learn to use computers. The Hope School plans to add one grade each year, reaching grade 12 in the year 2010.

Honorable Charity

IFHope has earned the highest possible rating on Charity Navigator (four stars), ensuring us that we can give with the confidence of knowing that the funds we contribute will be used most efficiently for their intended purpose.
