External Ads

Flyers, posters, brochures, and ads

Please read these tips before placing an ad, posting a flyer, or distributing any information outside EUUC. External communications comprise material intended to promote the church or any aspect of church life, including, services, movies, speakers, concerts, and classes. These notices include

  • printed notices that are to be posted on community bulletin boards and at local businesses
  • brochures that are distributed outside of the EUUC building
  • press releases
  • electronic notices for online bulletin boards, websites, or any Internet location
  • radio and TV ads

Editing and Proofreading

Before publishing external communications, you need to have your text proofread. Please submit material that is intended for an outside audience to the Print and Online Publicity Coordinator for editing.

Crafting your message

What types of information should you include?

You will need to decide the specific information that needs to be conveyed, but here are some ideas.

  • Who is sponsoring the event?
  • Who is the intended audience?
  • Describe the event.  For instance, name the speakers and performers, and provide background information.
  • When and where will the event be held?
  • What is the purpose of the event?
  • How does the public learn more?  Phone number? Website?  Email?
  • How do they register?  Phone number? Online form?  Email?
  • How much does it cost?
  • How do people volunteer or get involved?

How long before the event should you submit your publicity?

Six weeks.

Does the information need to be written and ready to print?

You should write the notice as you would like it to appear, but keep in mind that the Online and Print Publicity Coordinator will edit your text.  Each media outlet might require a slightly different version of the content, so the Online and Print Publicity Coordinator will adjust the message accordingly.

Where will the notice be placed?

The Online and Print Publicity Coordinator will decide which media will be the most effective outlet for your message.  This volunteer has experience with what types of ads were accepted by specific media outlets in the past, and so is the best judge of where to place your message.  However, that volunteer is available to discuss media options with you, if you are interested.
