Instructions for Getting Emails

I just received an euuc.org email account.
What do I do now?

If you have an email account at EUUC, you will want to tell your email application, like Outlook, Thunderbird, or Gmail, to go get those messages. After you do so, when you open your email application, your messages will appear with all your other emails in your inbox.

You can also read and send emails through an email application called SquirrelMail that is provided by our email hosting company. We recommend that when you receive your mailbox account and password, you follow these steps.

  1. Log into your mailbox control panel to change your password.
  2. Log into SquirrelMail to test your new password. Log out.
  3. Set up your email application to get and send messages from your EUUC mailbox.

Setting up your email application

Your email application is what you use to read and send emails. Most people use Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Gmail, but there are many others. You will need to tell your email application how to get your emails.

You can reply to emails from your personal email account, or you can send them from your euuc.org address, as long as you set that up too.

These instructions are generic, designed for those who want to try setting up their email applications. In the left navigation bar are links to specific instructions for many of the popular email applications.

To get and send emails

Open your email application and look for the window where you configure your email accounts. Here are some places to look.

Thunderbird: In the Tools menu select Account Settings
Outlook: In the Tools menu select Account Settings
Gmail: On the top line click Settings and then select Accounts and Import

Follow their menu for setting up an account to read emails. Here are some settings:

  • Incoming Mail Server: mail.euuc.org
  • Incoming mail sever type: POP3 or IMAP (Choose IMAP if you want to read email from multiple computers.)
  • Incoming mail server username: yourfirstname.yourlastname@euuc.or

If you want to send emails from your euuc.org account rather than your personal email account, you will need to set up that capability.

  • Outgoing SMTP mail server: mail.euuc.org
  • Server requires authentication: checked or "yes"
  • Use secure password authentication: not checked or "no"
