Setting up Outlook to Get your Email

Outlook Express
Instructions from Aldebaran Website Design

Want to get EUUC email through Outlook?

If you use Outlook to access your personal email, then you might want to also handle your @euuc.org emails in Outlook. If so, follow these steps.

Outlook settings

The email settings that work on one computer might not work on another one, because they are driven by the email application, the internet service provider, and the hosting company all communicating together.

These settings were successful with Outlook 2003. You would enter the settings for either POP3 or IMAP, not both.

IMAP incoming mail server: mail.euuc.org on port 143
POP3 incoming mail server: mail.euuc.org on port 110
SMPT outgoing mail server: mail.euuc.org on port 587 with authentication
No encryption, such as SSL

Stepping through the menus

Open Outlook. Open the Tools menu on the top line.

Outlook menu bar

Tools menuFrom the Tools menu select Account Settings. Other versions of Outlook call Acccount Settings by a similar term.

Now you are asked what type of account you want to set up.

Next, fill in your name as you want it to appear in emails you send. Your email account is in this format: Firstname.Lastname@euuc.org. This password is the one for your EUUC email address, not the password from your internet service provider. If you cannot remember your password, the Webmaster can reset it for you.

Outlook account setup menu

Here is where you identify the servers. This screen shot is from a member with an unfortunately dull name: First Last. Fill out the form and click Test Account Settings. It will probably connect to the incoming server, but not the outgoing server.

Outlook setup email menu

Assuming the outgoing server failed to connect, click More Settings. On the top line select the Outgoing Server tab. Check the box to require authentication and select "Use same settings..."

Outlook outgoing server setup

Click the Advanced tab. If you want POP3 (download and delete mail off the server), set the incoming server port to 110. If you want IMAP (download and synchronize email with the server), set the incoming server port to 143. Set the outgoing server to port 587. Do not use an encrypted connection.

Outlook Advanced setup

Click OK and you will return to the page where you can test the connection. Click Test Account Settings. This should work, and Outlook will send a test email to your euuc.org account.
