Cedar Valley Community School

Vibrant international student body

Cedar Valley Community School in the Edmonds School District and serves more than 450 students in grades K through 6. The families attending this school speak nearly 20 different languages.

Our involvement

EUUC member Joan Callender has been volunteering at Cedar Valley since she retired from the classroom in 1992, and has been our liaison with the school’s teachers and staff. Many EUUC volunteers help students in the classrooms, primarily in the third and fourth grades. We work with the teachers on improving student reading skills, writing, math, art and whatever else needs a helping hand. One of our members teaches Mah Jong, much to the delight of the students.

Supplies

We also provide the hygiene kits that the school nurse needs in her presentation to each class on personal care. This includes purchasing the items and assembling them into kits, one for each child in the school.

Funds for field trips and scholarships

Usually we are able to provide a field trip or school assembly each spring. We serve as a resource for needed speakers during the year and provide several summer school scholarships.
