Sunday Offering for June and July
"Everyone Gets to Play" has been the motto of Sno‐King Youth Club for over 30 years. Sno‐King Youth Club provides roughly 4,000 children per year the opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals and skills of a sport, as well as the understanding of teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship. Basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer are available, providing year‐round opportunities for the children of our community.
Participating in sports provides youth with opportunities for physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well‐being. Youth sports help children get ready for their lives as adults by teaching valuable life lessons, whether that’s learning about being part of a team, hard work, character, commitment, or just being able to follow the rules of fair play.
Sno‐King Youth Club provides a safe, nurturing environment where coaches are screened to make sure they are safe to work with kids and are trained to instruct and mentor as coaches. You won’t find the kind of over‐the‐top competitiveness that is harmful for children at Sno‐King Youth Club. In fact, our own Duane Herzig, has been a volunteer official with Sno‐King Youth Club for 15 years!
Funds raised from the Sunday Offering during June and July will be applied toward scholarships to offset registration costs for low‐income families and toward new equipment. Please give generously.
Travel to Transylvania
Every year our Interim Minister, the Reverend Cecilia Kingman Miller, leads trips to the Unitarian homelands of Transylvania.
If you would like to travel with her, you can find out more about upcoming trips at Project Harvest Hope. Look for the link to the Pilgrimages page.
What the Heck is Seabeck?
How about …
…one of the year’s best ways to get to know other UUs from Edmonds, Woodinville, and Whidbey Island congregations.
…no cooking, no washing dishes, no making coffee for a whole weekend.
…a thought-provoking theme. This year it’s the Great Turning—how we can help change the story of our culture from the present one of domination and environmental destruction to one of sustainability and preservation of our Earth.
…an inspiring workshop. Edith Faste and Donna Warren will present a program of music and story telling entitled, "Reframing the Story to Begin the Turning: Chapter by Chapter, Page by Page"
…great conversations, fantastic variety show, folk dancing, Scrabble, walks in the woods, rocking on the porch, swimming in the lagoon (yes, it’s cold, and every year dozens of Polar Bears do it. Will you?)
It’s a weekend away, at the Seabeck Conference Center on beautiful Hood Canal for families, for friends, for everyone!
This year’s dates are September 19 through 21. If you register before August 15, you get the best deal, and you’ll be guaranteed a place. After that, well….
