Distinctive, hand-dyed silk scarves and accessories for the woman who prefers unique and individual fashion accessories
Alice Britt is known among textile artists in the Pacific Northwest for the wide variety of sewn and hand-dyed techniques she uses in creating her exquisite silk scarves and shawls. Learn more about her work at her website for Silk Road Creations.
Her signature scarves feature yanagi shibori. This ancient hand-dyeing technique originated in Imperial Japan as a way of patterning kimono silk. While the artisans of the Imperial Court ironed their fabric in preparation for making kimono, Ms. Britt chooses to preserve the texture resulting from the shibori process for a distinctive contemporary look.

These one-of-a-kind reversible scarves feature a mélange of vintage silks combined with complementary hand-dyed silks. Because they are fully lined with contrasting colors, they assume the appearance of several scarves depending how they are draped!
This type of scarf features intricate ”burned out” patterns of satin or velvet on a contrasting silk background.
This scarf features subtle mottling, hand-painted on silk chiffon, jacquard or charmeuse. Additional layers of color and pattern may be added by silk screening, stamping and/or over-dyeing.
Ms. Britt also creates pins and earrings using vintage kimono and other exquisite fabrics to complement her silk scarves.
